Race the Wilds Adventure Challenge

Mandatory Individual Gear (must be carried at ALL times, unless race directors make race day adjustments)
- Whistle (one per person)
- Space Blanket (one per person)
- Rain coat (taped, with hood; waterproof, not water-resistant)
- Suitable clothing for the conditions
- Hydration System (water bottles, hydration bladder, etc...)
- Appropriate pack
- Enough food for the duration of the event; you may stage additional food at the central TA, but you should be self-sufficient out on the course.
- Enough water/fluids for the duration of the event; you may stage water, gatorade, etc. at the central TA, but you should be self-sufficient out on the course.
Mandatory Team Gear
- Race rules, maps, passports (provided by the race organization)
- Fully charged cell phone (one per team)
- Compass (one per team – if you are in need of a new compass, we recommend Kanpas products)
- First aid kit – The list below is the mandatory, minimum requirement, but we encourage you to round out your kit with additional items as you deem necessary and wise. We recommend you consult this medical kit’s supply list for guidance on additional supplies.
- Antihistamine/benadryl
- Ibuprofen
- Assorted bandaids
- 4 gauze pads, minimum 3×3
- Disinfecting wipes
- Emergency supplies for those who require it (inhaler, epi pen, etc…)
Mandatory Individual Bike Gear (Must be carried on all bike legs)
- Mountain bike
- Helmet
Mandatory Team Bike Gear
- Repair Kit; you must be prepared to deal with bike repair if necessary. Recommended items include:
- Multi-tool
- Tire levers
- Patch kit
- Hand pump or CO2 for flat tires
- One tube per two bikes (minimum); we recommend that you know how to change a bike tube.
Mandatory Paddle Gear (for solos and teams paddling)
- Canoe or kayak(s):
- Teams should bring boats to properly match their team size (example: a team of three may bring a three-person canoe, or three solo kayaks, or a two-person canoe and a single kayak).
- Other non-motorized watercraft such as inflatable boats and SUPs (stand up paddleboards) are acceptable but not ideal.
- PFD: one for each competitor
- Paddle: canoe, kayak, or SUP paddle; one per competitor
- Bailer: one per boat; a cut-off milk jug or something similar will work just fine!
*We are working on sourcing boats for rent and will update the website and registered racers as we have more information.
Recommended Individual Gear
- Map Case or other means to keep your maps dry and accessible
- Foot lubricant/cream (we recommend Hikegoo and other products from Foot Kinetics)
- Sunscreen
- Bug Spray
- A watch
- Dry bag(s) – enough dry bags or other waterproofing for all gear and food
- A tarp for the central transition. Teams may leave gear, food, hydration, etc... on that space.
Prohibited Gear
- Weapons
- Motorized modes of travel and and form of transportation not specifically allowed by the organization.
- GPS devices/pedometers/etc…
- If you’re wondering whether a particular device is approved, ask us BEFORE the race.
- If you want to use a device for the sake of tracking your route for later download, you may be permitted to use it but must discuss this with the organization BEFORE the race.

- Communication devices – a cell phone is required for emergencies only; no other such devices should be carried unless approved by the organization.
